Abraham Gómez is an experimental photographer influenced by contemporary conceptual-art. He directs his gaze towards his native Chamula, and explores by questioning his role as artist-observer in the context of his Tsotsil-speaking community and in that of the art world today.

Born in Ichinton, Chamula, Gómez works in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, and continues to form part of the Ichinton traditional community. He lives there with his wife, the linguist and professor, Margarita Martínez.
Gómez was a prize-winning bilingual writer, in Tsotsil and Spanish, before he took up photography. In 2012, he began studying photography with Luis Aguilar at the Gimnasio de Arte, in San Cristóbal de Las Casas. Later he attended the Seminary of Contemporary Photography in the San Agustin Art Center in Oaxaca.
Among his photography exhibitions are: Chiapaneco – Contemporary Indigenous Photography and Film from Chiapas, en Galerie der Kunststiftung Poll, Berlin, Germany, and Between Thanatos and Hypnos, from the Colectivo Fotografia Conteporanea Chipapaneca (Focochi), in San Cristrobal de las Casas, Chiapas. His work is also featured in the photography book Reveal and Detonate (Mexico, 2016).
