“Traditionally, pox has been an identity symbol of the Tsotsil Maya people in the highlands of Chiapas, whose importance is reflected in the daily life of the population. This shot glass for drinking pox was designed based on a millennia-old tradition, from its production process to the shape of the bottles and containers in which it is served. This product reinvents the design by incorporating the value that indigenous peoples hold for Mother Earth.” – P.T’ul Gómez

P. T’ul Gómez was born in Chonombyakilvo’, San Andrés Larráinzar, Chiapas, Mexico, in 1997. He is an emerging artist who has found his way as a ceramicist, creating both sculptural works and high-design utensils. His preferred material is local, sourced from San Ramón in the Jobel Valley. He varies his firing technique, sometimes using an open flame and other times utilizing a high-temperature kiln. In his accompanying texts, he molds his forms based on his memories, his research with the elders, and the collective subconscious of his community. Learn more.
