Kayúm Ma’ax
Naha, Ocosingo, Chiapas, Mexico, 1962. A self-taught artist awarded the Chiapas Prize in 1992. He paints with an eye trained since birth in the jungle environment, and an unprecedented narrative ability informed by the worldview and local history of Nahá (a population of 250 people) that has only been “open to the world” for about 50 years.
