Ixcheel (Lunar deity) | Antún Kojtom

$30,000.00

Oil on canvas
110 x 90 cm

“The artwork depicts the lunar deity rising from pre-Hispanic ruins, undergoing a geometric bodily transformation, with our vision and interpretations being contemporarily Mayan. Accompanying the lunar deity is the bird-ch’ulel and various interpretations of Mayan spirituality known as Ch’ulel, Ch’ulelal, Ch’ulelil, and ch’ul. The hand position of the character is shamanic, intended to attain cosmic luminosity. The dual profile of the moon signifies that the Maya people interpret the moon as a human deity.” – Antún Kojtom
