Dreaming of an eruption | Saúl Kak

“It is a journey into oral tradition. The eruption of the volcano is a significant moment for the Zoques; before that, our culture was not known. During the volcano eruption and the evacuation of affected communities, the State prioritized rescuing all the livestock and coffee bags, while people were evacuated at the end. That’s why in the artwork, there is a bull’s head, a sack, and a tired person. There is also a transport used to evacuate people, some branches and seeds symbolizing a gift from the community to their gods, and a farmer who is part of the community.” – Saúl Kak
